Singer-songwriter Ernest has swiftly ascended to becoming one of country music’s current top-shelf calls when it comes to creating hit records and collaborations, thanks to songs including the Morgan Wallen collabs “Flower Shops” and “Cowgirls,” and Ernest’s recent Lainey Wilson collab “I Would If I Could” (which Ernest has also released to country radio as a solo version).
Now, it seems the Tennessee native could have another collab on his hands. Ernest posted photos on Instagram of himself in the recording studio with F-1 Trillion hitmaker and Texas native Post Malone, as well as Texas native and rapper BigXthaPlug and Tennessee producer Bandplay. Ernest captioned the Tuesday (Feb. 11) carousel post, “Texas 🤝 Nashville.”
Ernest was previously featured on Post Malone’s “Devil I’ve Been” from Posty’s F-1 Trillion album, and contributed songwriting to the majority of the songs on that project, including “Wrong Ones,” “Guy for That” and the six-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “I Had Some Help” featuring Wallen. Ernest has also written hits recorded by Wallen (“Wasted on You,” “Somebody’s Problem”), Jelly Roll (“Son of a Sinner”), Florida Georgia Line (“Dig Your Roots”) and Kane Brown (“One Mississippi”).
Meanwhile, BigXthaPlug has noted in recent interviews that he has a country-leaning project in the works. In December, he told Complex that fans should expect a collabs-loaded project, saying, “You got Shaboozey, you got Morgan Wallen, you got Post Malone, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll.” In an interview with Billboard, BigXthaPlug added, “We’ve done songs and they sound so good. And it’s like, ‘Why not make a little body [of work] out of it?”
This wouldn’t be BigXthaPlug’s first country-leaning outing. He previously teamed up with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” hitmaker Shaboozey for the track “Drink Don’t Need No Mix.”
