Dua is mourning Duo.

Language learning app Duolingo announced the devastating news on Tuesday (Feb. 11) that its mascot, the green bird known as the Duolingo Owl, has died. “Authorities are currently investigating his cause of death and we are cooperating fully. Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know,” the app wrote in a statement via social media.

The statement hilariously ended with “We appreciate you respecting Dua Lipa’s privacy at this time,” as the Owl has shown his love for the pop star with a similar name over the years.

Lipa was heartbroken by the news of her beloved’s passing, and took to X to share a fitting response. “Til’ death duo part,” she wrote with the heartbreak emoji.

Duolingo might have been a major part of Lipa’s life, who previously expressed in a Rolling Stone cover story that she’s interested in learning a series of languages by the age of 35. “I want to know all of them,” she told the publication. “I get so jealous when people are speaking in French, or Spanish, or Italian, and I’m like, ‘F—.’ I just want to respond. I think I can pick them up fairly easily because of Albanian, although it’s quite different.”

Lipa isn’t the only person that’s been affected by the Duolingo Owl’s death. When asked by their followers if there’s a suspect for the crime that led to Duolingo Owl’s passing, the account replied, “Authorities are looking into a Canadian rapper currently.”
